If you're thinking of buying a new top or front loading washer for your laundry, consider these points:

• TYPE: top loader or front loader? Top loaders are faster and you can add items once the wash has started. Front loaders use less water and are gentler on clothes
• SIZE: from 5 to about 8kg is normal
• FEATURES: cycle time, max spin speed, running costs, cold washes, timer start, water use, balance correction
