If you're thinking of buying an extractor fan or rangehood to remove steam, grease and odour from your kitchen, consider these points:

• HOOD STYLE: Wall canopies, island canopies, tilterhoods, slideout or hidden extractor
• POWER: Extractor power is measured in cubic metres per hour (m³/hr) or litres per minute (l/min). Models start at 350 m³/hr to 1100 m³/hr.
• NOISE: Noise level is measures in decibels (dB). A lower number is best. Avoid flexible ducting to reduce noise levels.
• FEATURES: Lighting is another reason for installing a rangehood. Look for halogen as it renders colours well.
